I have written journals for years, but this is my first time sharing any of my feelings publicly. When it came down to deciding what would be my first post, I went with the first thing that came to mind: The challenges of dating as a single dad. In future posts I will write more about experiences I have had, the choices single parents make, and the significant impact it can all have on one’s children.
And on the flip side, many single parents now date- you can see them on dating websites- and may get married later, whether they are bio parents with a divorce under their belt, or some other structure.
Are you prepared for this? Of course, very few of our men are that prepared when they start considering marriage. Hence, I always ask them to imagine they are about to get married to a focused, hard-working, single mom who is trying to make money, build her business or career, raise great kids, give them the best and be their role model.
Can you lead such a woman? Or would you add to her issues? How did I get to this point? Could I have been this mature 15 years ago without being married? But we need to find a way to help men grow up and ready for fatherhood and leadership at home even before they start preparing for marriage. Single moms also are concerned about the safety of their kids. But that does not mean every single mom wants to remain single?
