It is a relatively straightforward tool for users who prefer to work with coordinates, and it can export images to several formats. Quick downloader that does not allow you to preview maps First of all, it is worth noting that this application is only useful if you already know the coordinates of the areas you are interested in. There are four parameters that are used to define the target region, namely the left and right longitude and the top and bottom latitude.
You can also restrict the number of images that are downloaded at once by limiting the operation to a certain range of zoom levels. Comes equipped with several image viewers and a map combiner The program enables you to view the downloaded offline maps using one of the included viewing utilities. These are not particularly complex, as they only allow you to zoom in or out.

UFOs and Fringe Science There are around human-made satellites in working order around the Earth, however if the debris of old and damaged satellites are taken into account the number increases dramatically. Ever since the Soviet Union launched the very first artificial satellite into orbit in , various countries around the world have sought to compete and satellites today are used for communication, navigation and exploration.
Satellites are often visible passing overhead as the sunlight reflects back towards the Earth. One of them is impossible to miss, the largest satellite currently in orbit, the International Space Station, at a huge m across. However, these satellites are relatively unexciting in comparison to the mystery surrounding one very old dark satellite… Mysterious unidentified flying satellite from STS Legend has it that in orbit around the Earth is a mysterious, dark object which dates back perhaps 13 years.
The origin of the ominous name is part of the enigma; it is impossible to discover who first called it this or indeed why. Humans have only in the last 60 years had the technology to launch a man-made object into space so what is the logical explanation of tales of an alien intruder on our doorstep? The Tesla Transmissions The first apparent part of this story begins with signals heard by Nikola Tesla a brilliant Serbian inventor and described by many thanks to his often eccentric behaviour and opinions as a genuine mad scientist who spent most of his career in the USA.
He was an electrical engineer and produced works which explored the idea of radio and wireless transmissions. In , he reportedly intercepted a signal unlike any of the natural sources from Earth such as electrical storms that he had already investigated in his experiments. Instead he announced that regular signals must be coming from an intelligent outside source , potentially inhabitants of Mars. Tesla never claimed to have heard signals from a satellite orbiting Earth.
Today there are those who say he was listening to a transmission from an orbiting satellite of unknown origin later called by some the Black Knight.

Brandberg Intrusion, Namibia Rising unexpectedly from the heart of the Namib Desert in northern Namibia, the Brandberg Massif is an exhumed granite intrusion dating to some million years ago. It rises to 2, meters 8, feet and is higher than any other feature for hundreds of kilometers. Unique plant and animal communities thrive in its high-altitude environment, and prehistoric cave paintings decorate walls hidden in its steep cliffs.
Slightly south and to the west of the Brandberg is the much-eroded Messum Intrusion.

City of Hope Beckman Research Institute Small Animal Imaging East Duarte Road Duarte, CA Preliminary testing in laboratory animals has long been essential to the development of new pharmaceuticals and of new methods for the treatment of human disease. The current development of sophisticated transgenic animal models—coupled with a growing recognition of the importance of understanding of disease processes in the context of the living host—has extended the use of animal experimentation beyond safety and efficacy testing into the realm of mechanistic investigation.
Thanks to non-invasive imaging, researchers can now perform multiple measurements, over time, in the same animal. This development not only enhances data quality in studies of dynamic molecular and of physiologic processes—it greatly reduces the number of animals required for such studies. With the help of this extraordinary technology, the dynamic biodistribution of therapeutic agents as well as vital processes, such as gene expression, cell trafficking, cell viability, cell proliferation, tissue hypoxia, and angiogenesis can be monitored non-invasively in the intact animal.
Imaging of small animals has become indispensable to medical research and to scientific developments, as it helps investigators remain competitive for extramural funding. We will provide customized service for disease-specific human iPSC derivation, characterization, and genetic correction.

Google and China have been at odds since last year, when a serious hacking attack originating from China prompted Google to withdraw its search service from the mainland. A snapshot from Map World which shows China from above At least some of Map World’s high-resolution images of central Beijing appear to have been taken on October 1st, , when streets were cleared for the tanks and floats of the National Day Parade, which are visible on the street. Map World only provides high-altitude images outside China, with the other side of the Chinese-North Korean border a stark white blank once a certain resolution is passed.
Other countries also turn up a blank page at close resolution. Taiwan, which China claims as a renegade province, cannot be viewed at the same resolution as the mainland. Google had not applied for a web mapping licence in China but Google’s mapping service is accessible from computers on the mainland. Regulations issued by the bureau in May required companies providing online map and location services to apply for a licence. In order to apply, firms would have to keep map servers storing data within the country.
Google hits the streets for a better view
The search giant is hitting the road again to capture images of Australia’s capital cities at ground level as part of an update to its Street View service. Since it was launched in Australia in August last year, Google Maps Street View has gone from being an invasive privacy concern to a voyeuristic gawking tool to a valuable navigation service used by thousands of Australians every day. In a posting on Google’s blog, product manager Andrew Foster said the company was sending its Street View fleet of Holden Astras back on the road to ensure its panoramic imagery was up to date and reflective of what you would see if you visited an area in person.

Have you ever wondered where does the Google Maps and Google Earth satellite images come from? Most of them were taken by Landsat 7. The Landsat Program is a series of Earth-observing satellite missions jointly managed by NASA and the U.S. Geological Survey.
How much data has Google Maps accumulated? Combining satellite, aerial and street level imagery, Google Maps has over 20 petabytes of data, which is equal to approximately 21 million gigabytes, or around 20, terabytes. How often are the images updated? Depending on data availability, aerial and satellite images are updated every two weeks. Street View images are updated as quickly as possible, though Google wasn’t able to offer specific schedules, due to its dependence on factors such as weather, driving conditions, etc.
How does Google Maps monitor inappropriate content captured on Street View? According to a Google spokesperson, users occasionally report “odd or unpleasant moments” captured on Google Maps — usually in Street View. The team works quickly to review and take action, if necessary. Users can report an image by clicking “Report a problem” at the bottom of the image, and those requests are regularly monitored and responded to by Google employees.
